Our History.
North American Signs was founded in 1934 by Maurice P. Yarger under the name South Bend Neon. Today, the company is led by the founder’s grandson, John Yarger, with the active involvement and counsel of Noel and Tom Yarger.
Our early years focused on neon signage for local automotive dealers and retail businesses. As technology evolved, we evolved with it. We were early adopters of plastic-faced signs illuminated by fluorescent tubes, and we later became an industry leader in energy-saving LED signage.
In the 1970s, North American Signs expanded its focus to national and regional chain accounts. That shift was a bold move at the time, and it positioned us to become a leading provider of managed signage programs for multi-location brands. Today, we serve organizations and industry leaders across the country.
F.A.Q.
What is your signage process?
Our process is built around clear communication, proactive planning, and consistent execution from kickoff through installation.
Every project is different, but most signage programs include planning, design, permitting, fabrication, installation, and final coordination. Depending on your scope, our team can also support surveys, landlord approvals, multi-location reporting, and ongoing project management.
The goal is simple: deliver signage that is accurate, professionally installed, and aligned with your brand standards.
How long will my project take?
Project timelines vary based on the type of sign, number of locations, permitting requirements, approvals, production needs, and installation scheduling.
Some urgent projects may move within a few weeks, while larger or more complex programs can take several months. Our team will help you understand the expected timeline once we know more about your scope, location, and project requirements.
We focus on moving efficiently while protecting quality, compliance, and your brand standards.
How do you handle communication and reporting?
We keep communication clear, consistent, and aligned with how your team prefers to work.
For single-location projects, this may include direct updates by email or phone. For larger programs, we can provide scheduled check-ins, project tracking, status updates, and customized reporting to help keep timelines, approvals, and next steps organized.
Our goal is to make sure you always know where things stand and what comes next.
Do you use subcontractors or manufacturing vendors?
Yes. When needed, we work with trusted manufacturing and installation partners to support projects across different regions and markets.
North American Signs manages the process, coordinates the work, and holds our partners accountable to your project requirements and brand standards. Our vendor network helps us support multi-location programs while maintaining consistency, quality, and reliable execution.
How involved would I be in the process?
Your involvement depends on how your team prefers to work.
Some clients want frequent updates and approval checkpoints. Others prefer us to manage the details and only bring them in at key decision points. Either way, we’ll align with your expectations and request input where it matters most, including artwork, site details, approvals, and installation coordination.
Our job is to make the signage process easier while keeping your project on track and on brand.
