F.A.Q.

Common questions about our process, capabilities, and what it looks like to work with North American Signs.

What is your signage process?

At North American Signs, our process starts long before a sign is manufactured. From kickoff to installation, we prioritize clear communication, proactive problem-solving, and true partnership with your team.

Our process is flexible and can be tailored to your scope, timeline, and number of locations.

Here is what you can expect:

  • Dedicated team support: You are paired with a dedicated sales representative and project manager, supported by our Head of Project Management who oversees day-to-day coordination.

  • Design and artwork development: Our in-house designers create and adapt artwork for façade requirements, site conditions, and regional variations when needed.

  • Permitting and coordination: Your project manager communicates with landlords and municipalities, coordinates approvals and variances, and keeps your project moving forward.

  • Project tracking and reporting: You receive updates and reporting through our in-house project tracking management software, so status and next steps are always clear.

  • Manufacturing: Once designs are approved, our manufacturing team fabricates your signage to meet quality and brand standards.

  • Installation: Your signs are installed by our in-house team or a trusted partner to ensure a professional finish and correct placement.

The result: signage delivered accurately, installed correctly, and aligned with your brand standards at every location.

How long will my project take?

Project timelines vary based on scope and location. Factors like geography, how long it take to obtain approvals, and the number of sites in your program can significantly impact permitting, production, and installation scheduling.

In urgent situations, we can sometimes deliver signage within a few weeks. More commonly, projects take four weeks to several months, depending on your needs and project complexity.

Key factors that influence timing include:

  • Sign type and overall complexity

  • Quantity of locations or sites

  • Size and fabrication requirements

  • Material and quality specifications

  • Permitting and municipal approval timelines

  • Landlord approvals, when applicable

Why it matters: We focus on doing it right, not just doing it fast. Prioritizing your brand standards and the requirements at each site helps us deliver signage that looks great, installs correctly, and performs long term.

How do you handle communication and reporting?

Clear communication is essential to delivering signage that accurately represents your brand. We prioritize open, honest conversations and maintain transparency throughout the project, both internally and with our clients. Integrity has always been a core value at North American Signs, and we bring that same professionalism and care to every interaction.

We adapt to your workflow: Every client communicates differently. Our team is known for meeting clients where they are by aligning with preferred communication styles, billing expectations, and project tracking systems whenever possible. Many clients prefer a weekly check-in call supported by email and phone updates, but we are happy to work within your preferred cadence and method.

Reporting you can rely on: For multi-site programs, we provide customized reporting to keep progress, timelines, and next steps clear. When appropriate, our team can also visit locations to support coordination and oversee key installations.

Why it matters: Communication matters because your brand matters. When you always know what is happening and what comes next, your signage program stays organized, consistent, and on track.

How involved would I be in the process?

Your involvement level is completely up to you. From communication frequency to approval steps, our goal is to understand how you prefer to work and then align our process to your timeline and expectations.

Tell me more: Some clients prefer a hands-on approach with frequent updates and detailed checkpoints. Others prefer a streamlined experience where we manage the full signage process with minimal time required from their team. Either way, we will always request feedback and approval at key moments, especially for artwork, site requirements, and installation scheduling.

Why it matters: Every organization works differently. We are built to absorb the details, manage the moving parts, and execute your branding needs with consistency. No matter how involved you want to be, we treat you like a partner and focus on making the process easier while keeping your project on time, on budget, and on brand.

Do you use subcontractors or manufacturing vendors?

Yes.We partner with trusted third-party manufacturing and installation vendors when needed, especially for projects outside our immediate region. This approach allows us to support multi-site programs efficiently while maintaining consistent standards across locations.

How we protect quality: Our results depend on the partners we choose, so we carefully vet and regularly review every vendor we use. We manage the work, maintain accountability, and ensure your brand standards are followed from start to finish.

The details: We maintain an internal network of more than 3,500 manufacturing and installation partners nationwide, including many long-standing relationships. Vendor selection is based on:

  • The requirements and conditions of your specific location

  • Performance history and ratings, including:

    • Quality of work

    • Delivery speed

    • Crew capacity and reliability

    • Pricing and overall value

    • Timeliness

    • Communication

After each job, performance is reviewed and documented so we can continuously improve quality and consistency across your program.

Meet The Team

Behind every successful signage program is a team that knows how to execute. Our people bring experience across design, fabrication, project management, logistics, and installation coordination.

We believe strong results come from strong relationships. That starts with real communication, clear ownership, and a team that follows through.

A Little Lesson in History

Keeping our word since 1934.

North American Signs was founded in 1934 by Maurice P. Yarger under the name South Bend Neon. Today, the company is led by the founder’s grandson, John Yarger, with the active involvement and counsel of Noel and Tom Yarger.

Our early years focused on neon signage for local automotive dealers and retail businesses. As technology evolved, we evolved with it. We were early adopters of plastic-faced signs illuminated by fluorescent tubes, and we later became an industry leader in energy-saving LED signage.

In the 1970s, North American Signs expanded its focus to national and regional chain accounts. That shift was a bold move at the time, and it positioned us to become a leading provider of managed signage programs for multi-location brands. Today, we serve organizations and industry leaders across the country.

Our facility sits on 13 acres directly opposite the regional airport, supporting efficient coordination for our national customers.

North American Signs has also been recognized for leadership and service across the signage industry. We were the first area firm to join the International Sign Association and have contributed through committee participation and professional service. We are a long-time member of World Sign Associates, an organization of signage leaders known for high professional standards. Our leadership team has received multiple national, state, and local awards, including the International Sign Association Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award, presented to Noel Yarger in 2012.
